EP 13 - Please Someone Tell Me What a Brand is!!

You know you need to brand your company in order to stand out in the business world and attract your ideal clients. You’ve searched all over the internet about how to properly brand yourself, and you have found a thousand different answers. You’re more confused than ever and you don’t know how to proceed…you need help! 

This episode is for you. I’m going to break down exactly what goes into a company brand, how to define your own, and what having a solid brand will do for your business (hint: it’s all good stuff!) 

A brand is a packaged deal of your company core, plus your chosen aesthetic and your reputation with customers. If this sounds complicated, have a listen to all of last week’s episodes, where I talked about developing your company’s core. The good news is that if you’ve done the work of defining your business’s purpose, focus, values, and stories, then you’ve got 90% of the ingredients for a strong brand! The only missing part is the aesthetic stuff - picking a logo, a slogan, your decor and packaging, etc. Your reputation will be developed as clients interact with your company and decide how they feel about it.  

A good brand doesn’t leave room for a customer to wonder whether or not they agree with your values and want to support your business. A solid brand reflects what matters most to the company in everything a customer interacts with, from decor and packaging, to your slogan, company logo, and return policies. The customer will either love what you represent and want to be a part of it, or they’ll choose a competitor. 

In this episode, I take you through a series of thought-provoking questions to guide you to what your brand should be. 

Here’s something to think about: if you begin with the end in mind (which I always encourage), what would be an example of a hypothetical ideal five-star review you’d love to receive from a customer? Write down a few of these perfect ‘rave reviews’ from pretend customers, and then work backwards to develop a brand that would be the kind to get those five-star reviews.
